Hey dad, there's a patient for you!

My brother-in-law is an orthopedic surgeon. Today, he and I were taking our kids to their t-ball practice. As we were driving on the loop a motorcycle blew past us. His 5 year old looked at the motorcycle, then turned to his father and said, "daddy, look, there's another patient for you!" Hysterical.

Welcome

In my hospital the ED is divided into 4 parts. The triage area has a couple of rooms where we treat the most simple complaints such as ear infections and ingrown toenails- really anything that does not require any tests and certainly shouldn't be in the ED. Pod C is basically the same as the triage rooms, with the exception that we will run a test or two on these patients, such as a person with a broken toe. Pod B is most of the patients that will probably be admitted, kids with appendicitis, old men with pneumonia. Pod A is my section. Pod A is the traumas. The child births. The codes.

Pod A is why I became an Emergency Physician, many moons ago.
